The 11.633-km long PVNR Expressway, which is the longest flyover of India, was inaugurated on Monday in Hyderabad by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, K Rosaiah. The flyover now makes the travel between Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad and Hyderabad, which is about 30 km, very easy.
The flyover has been named after Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and forms the connection between Mehdipatnam of Hyderabad to Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway, en route to the international airport.
The 17.2 m wide, four lane flyover has been developed by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority at an expense of Rs.6 billion.
HMDA officials say the facility would cut the travel time to the airport by 30 to 40 minutes. At present, it takes 45 minutes to an hour for a person to reach the airport from different points in the city.
